About the Haunted Field of Screams
The Haunted Field of Screams has been terrifying Colorado for 26 years, running every fall on Riverdale Road in Thornton, one of the most infamous stretches of road in the state. Across 40 acres of corn, guests navigate multiple haunted houses, a sprawling corn field, and the Riverdale Gates of Hell, the attraction's signature encounter. In 2025, Westword named it Denver's Best Haunted House.
Why Riverdale Road
Long before the Haunted Field of Screams existed, Riverdale Road already had a reputation. Locals call it the most haunted road in Colorado, an 11-mile stretch tied to stories of hangings, fires, and roadside accidents going back generations. Legend has it that a man once burned his own mansion to the ground with his family inside. The house never got rebuilt. The iron gates did survive, and people still call them the Gates to Hell.
That reputation didn't fade. For decades, locals have reported figures on the road at night, and more recent rumors point to strange gatherings near the gates, disguised as scarecrows, disappearances no one can fully explain.
We didn't invent this stretch of road's history. We just built a haunted attraction on top of it.
26 Years In, Still Growing
What started as a single corn path with a few hand-built scenes has grown into Colorado's largest haunted attraction. Today, Haunted Field of Screams features more than 80 actors, multiple haunted houses, a wagon ride, a haunted forest walk-through, and a terrifying cornfield encounter, an approximately 40-minute immersive experience.
Behind every monster is a special effects makeup team transforming actors with realistic scars, stitches, masks, and wounds. Every season, new scenes get built, the corn comes back taller, and Riverdale Road's legend gets a little harder to walk away from.
An Outdoor Haunt Like No Other
Our Gates of Hell experience isn't your typical haunted house walkthrough. Because we're an outdoor haunt, the environment itself becomes part of the scare. There are no walls to contain the darkness. Instead, you're surrounded by towering cornstalks, moonlight, shadows, and unsettling sounds coming from somewhere deep in the field. You never quite know what's waiting around the next corner, or lurking between the rows of corn.
Live actors, elaborate scenes, special effects, and constant jump scares turn that unpredictable environment into an experience that keeps you guessing from the moment you enter until you finally find your way out.
